A man and woman have been taken into police custody on the Gold Coast after an allegedly stolen car crashed into a tram, sparking a dramatic citizen's arrest.
Queensland Police allege a stolen BMW crashed into the tram on the Gold Coast Highway around 2pm today before the man and woman fled the scene on foot towards St Kilda Avenue.
Another 27-year-old woman who was standing next to her own car at the intersection of the two roads was then allegedly threatened by the man, who demanded she drive him away from the scene.
When the woman refused, the man became violent and grabbed her by the wrist before pulling a gel blaster gun from his bag, police allege.
Members of the public came to the woman's aid during the alleged altercation, with four people chasing the man and performing a citizen's arrest on the Gold Coast Highway until police arrived.
A 22-year-old Currumbin Waters man remains in custody charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of assault, deprivation of liberty and weapons offences.
A 19-year-old Logan Central woman, who was also arrested at the scene, has been charged with unlawful use of a vehicle.
