Ute crashes into Melbourne North home

A man in Melbourne's north has had a lucky escape after an out-of-control ute ploughed into his home last night.
Theo Theodorou was sleeping in his bedroom on Rio Grande Drive, Roxburgh Park when the vehicle mounted the kerb and came crashing into his ensuite just before midnight.
The 53-year-old had used the bathroom just minutes earlier.
"Ten minutes (earlier) and I would have been dead," Mr Theodorou told 9News.
He said the driver appeared drunk and tried to reverse his ute out of the wreck before he gave chase.
"He started kissing me, hugging me and said: 'sorry bro,'" Mr Theodorou said.
Mr Theodorou, along with other residents, have long petitioned for speed bumps to be installed on the street notorious for crashes.
He estimates the cost to repair his damaged home will likely be around $100,000.
Earlier this afternoon, a 25-year-old Roxburgh Park man handed himself in to police and is expected to be charged.
