Five people have been killed in a car crash in Kakadu National Park.

The crash happened about 60 kilometres west of Jabiru on the Arnhem Highway in the Northern Territory.

NT Police said they were notified of the crash at about 9:50am, and major crash investigators had been at the scene since this morning.

A NT Police spokesperson said Jabiru Police were the first on the scene and found a vehicle that had left the road, rolled and crashed into trees.

"Tragically, five persons were found deceased upon arrival," police said.

They said investigators were working to establish the identities of those killed.

The Arnhem Highway remained closed to all traffic on Monday afternoon.

The 2019 Northern Territory road toll now stands at 28 compared to 47 this time last year.
