A getaway driver's wild ride through the heart of Perth has ended in a dramatic citizen's arrest.
Police say the motorist in a stolen car ran red lights, hitting vehicles and narrowly missing pedestrians in 15 minutes of chaos.
Wesley Paul Garlett was allegedly driving a stolen Holden station wagon on the wrong side of Hay Street in the city around 6pm Thursday.
He tried to run but his escape was short lived, his escape stopped by a brave bystander.
The car sped down Hay Street as dozens watched the drama unfold.
Just 30 seconds earlier the getaway driver smashed into an innocent motorist.
The chaos in the city lasted almost 15 minutes.
Police say the driver ran a red light on Adelaide Terrace at 5:47pm and again at the intersection of Hay and Hill Streets narrowly avoiding pedestrians.
Two minutes later, another near miss on Barrack Street, before the Holden went the wrong way down Newcastle Street.
The joyride continued on Hay Street the station wagon speeding towards oncoming traffic hitting three cars, then becoming wedged between a CAT bus and another vehicle.
Police say Garlett's wild ride began earlier that afternoon in Camillo.
The 31-year-old allegedly stealing his grandmother's car, detectives focused on the Guinevere Street property for hours earlier in the day.
Garlett is facing four charges including reckless driving. Police say he was on bail at the time of the rampage. He's now behind bars after his new bail application was refused.
The man is due to face court again next week.
