distress while snorkelling off the coast of Queensland in two separate incidents today.
A man was snorkelling with his family on Moreton Island off the coast of Brisbane at 10.15am today when he ran into trouble.
The man was at the popular Tangalooma diving wrecks near Middle Road.
He was pulled from the water and holidaymakers and island staff spent more than 30 minutes trying to resuscitate him.
A rescue helicopter with a specialist critical care paramedic on board landed at the scene and began treatment, but he was unable to be revived.
A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
In the second incident, a man was spotted unconscious in the water by a passing boat at Buddina on the Sunshine Coast just after 11am, reports the Brisbane Times.
He was rushed to shore and taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
