North Melbourne bomb scare prompts evacuations, arrest

Businesses have been evacuated on a major inner Melbourne road after a man was found with a suspicious device, police say.


A man has been arrested at the scene and a strip of Racecourse Road has been closed.


"Police are currently at Racecourse Road in North Melbourne after a man was located with an unknown device about 10am," Victoria Police said in a statement.


"A 25-year-old man has been arrested and Bomb Response Unit officers are conducting a safety check.


"Businesses in the area have been evacuated and Racecourse Road has been blocked to traffic and trams between Flemington Road and Boundary Road."
