A man will face court today over allegations he indecently assaulted a child in a shopping mall near Coffs Harbour.

The 49-year-old is accused of inappropriately touching the girl, 10, at a shopping centre in Toormina, on the New South Wales North Coast.

The child was accompanying her parents when the accused followed them into a clothing store.

After allegedly indecently assaulting her, the man left the store.

The girl told her mother about the incident and she reported it to police.

Following inquiries, officers stopped a Toyota Corolla in Coffs Harbour yesterday and arrested the driver.

He was taken to the local police station where he was charged intentionally sexually touching a child between 10 and 16.

He was refused bail and will front Coffs Harbour Local Court today.
