Police say an eight-year-old boy was inside a parked car where a man and woman died in Melbourne's east on the weekend.

Emergency crews found the man and the woman in the car outside a block of units on Mount Pleasant Road in Nunawading just after 6:00pm on Saturday.

The woman, 36, from Blackburn, was dead when emergency services arrived, police said.

The man, 40, from Nunawading, died at the scene a short time later.

The boy was not physically harmed.
