The arrest was part of the investigation into the crash of a Mazda 323 into a parked Toyota Hiace van at 2.10am on Saturday in Chifley, in Sydney’s west.

Two passengers, aged 25 and 27, were trapped in the Mazda and had to be freed by emergency services.

The driver and another passenger fled the scene.

The younger passenger remains in a critical condition in hospital, while the older man is in a serious but stable condition.

The arrested man was taken to hospital under police guard.

He’s expected to be charged when he’s released from hospital.

Police are still hunting the fourth passenger.
