Public chase driver who fled after elderly woman in wheelchair hit by car in Sydney's Newtown



An 87-year-old woman in wheelchair has been hit by a car in Sydney’s Inner West.


Members of the public chased and caught a truck driver who allegedly ran off down the street after hitting an 87-year-old woman in a wheelchair in Sydney's inner west. (Nine)


The small truck was heading south along King Street in Newtown when it crashed into a set of traffic lights then hit the elderly woman (Nine)

Police said the 34-year old male driver allegedly fled his vehicle - but was chased by passers-by who caught him on Wilson Street.


A man has been arrested by police and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for drug and alcohol testing. (Nine)

Road closures are in place while officers investigate, including no access to Brown Street.
