Pedestrian hit on Melbourne freeway

A woman has died after being hit by a bus on a major Melbourne freeway this morning.

It is believed she was crossing Mickleham Road at pedestrian lights near the entry ramp to the Tullamarine Freeway, when she was struck by the bus travelling south along the road just after 5.30am.

The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the bus is assisting police with inquiries.

It’s believed there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident.

Police road crash investigators are travelling to the scene.

Officers wish to speak to the driver of a truck who pulled over and spoke briefly to the bus driver before leaving the scene.

VicRoads is advising the on-ramp to the Tullamarine Freeway from Mickleham Road will likely remain closed throughout the morning peak.

Motorists trying to get onto the M80 Ring Road should use Melrose Drive instead.

Anyone with information, who witnessed the incident or who may have dash cam footage should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
