A teenager shot in the arm while on a hotel balcony in Surfers Paradise has been revealed to be a tourist.


Police believe the shot came from a neighbouring unit in the complex, on the corner of Cavill Ave and the Gold Coast Highway on Saturday night, and was completely random.


Officers were called about 10.45pm.


The 18-year-old was hit in the upper arm and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.


Police are still searching for the gunman.
