Teenager struck with hammer in alleged attack in Sydney’s west

The intersection of Kildare Road and Doonside Road, where the attack allegedly took place.

A teenager has been hospitalised after being struck with a hammer in Sydney’s west yesterday.

Two students, aged 16 and 18, were walking towards Doonside Railway Station around 3.30pm when four men got out of a car at the intersection of Kildare Road and approached them.

Police were told that the men confronted the two boys, allegedly assaulting the 18-year-old before striking the 16-year-old in the head with a hammer.

Several bystanders attempted to intervene.

The 18-year-old student fled the scene after getting on a train.

Police say the group of men – who were also armed with a baseball bat – got back into their vehicle and then fled.

The 16-year-old who had been struck with the hammer was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and was later released.

Detectives are now urging witnesses or anybody with information to contact Blacktown Police or Crime Stoppers.
