Carpet python devours currawong on roof in viral video
A carpet python has been caught on camera trying to eat a bird up a television antenna in northern New South Wales.
Cathy Gall filmed the fascinating scene on the roof of her Kingscliff home on Wednesday morning.
"I was mesmerised," she said.
"We just couldn't take our eyes off it."
Ms Gall was feeding her dog when she heard a group of birds making a racket.
She looked up and saw a lump on the antenna.
"I went, 'oh my god that's a python'," she said.
"I looked closer and I could see feathers sticking out and claws."
It took the snake an hour and a half to devour the currawong.
It was trying to wrangle the bird into a position to eat it properly.
A group of kookaburras was divebombing the snake during its meal, Ms Gall said, causing the antenna to sway.
"I thought that I wouldn't want to watch but it was just amazing," she said.
"It was just nature in front of us."
Ms Gall filmed the gruesome scene and posted it to a local community Facebook group before heading to work.
Within hours it was going viral.
"I was working, no phones and turned the phone on," she said.
"I looked at my message and I've got messages from China and everywhere."
She said the television reception has not been affected by the incident.
