Sydney shooting: Police lock down part of inner-city Sydney after man found dead on street

A part of inner-city Sydney is in police lockdown this afternoon after a man was found shot dead on a quiet suburban street in Forest Lodge just after midday.

The man is understood to be to be in his late 20s.

The body was lying on the footpath of the intersection of Hereford Street and Minogue crescent at Forest Lodge, an affluent suburb in inner-city Sydney.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and a manhunt is underway. Police are now scouring the area with sniffer dogs and a police helicopter is hovering overhead.

The area where the body was found is close to a local primary school.

Police are appealing for information.
