TWO people have been injured after a fire broke out on the roof of Trump Tower in Manhattan, the New York Fire Department has confirmed.

The department said it was called around 7am Monday to a report of a fire on the top floor. About 84 firefighters were called to the scene.

An unnamed fire official said the blaze started in the cooling vents with no danger inside the building.

There was one minor injury to a firefighter after some debris fell on him and one engineer who breathed in smoke, he said.

“We had flames coming out of those vents. No smoke conditions, no fire inside the building,” he said. “Our units got up there quickly.”

The President is not currently in the tower.

Video from the scene shows firefighters on the roof of the 58-storey building battling the blaze and large amounts of smoke. The fire official said the steam and smoke were exacerbated by the cold weather.

The building is the headquarters for the Trump Organisation and is home to both private residences and businesses.

President Trump has a personal triplex apartment there, and it was a base for his campaign headquarters throughout the presidential race.

It comes as New York and much of the US east coast endure a cold snap as part of the “bomb cyclone” weather conditions.
