KFC car park shooting: innocent bystander killed
Shot dead ... Bob Knight.
June 26, 2009
The truck driver on his way home when he was killed by a stray bullet in last night's Milperra shoot-out apparently managed to safely pull over his nine-tonne vehicle before he died at the wheel from a massive head injury.
Bob Knight, a 66-year-old from Canberra, was struck in the head by a bullet fired from up to 200 metres away during a shoot-out involving up to six men in the car park of a KFC restaurant. Two of the men were shot and seriously injured, and police are hunting three other men over the incident.
A man arrested allegedly fleeing the scene of the incident is due to face court this afternoon on traffic charges.
Mr Knight was driving slowly travelling west along Milperra Road, through its intersection with Henry Lawson Drive, at about 10.40pm, police said.
"He is an innocent bystander who was simply doing his job, driving past that location, who was struck by a bullet at that time," Bankstown local area commander, Superintendent Stuart Wilkins, said.
