Engine malfunction grounded Airbus A330
June 17, 2009
ENGINE malfunction forced a Jetstar plane into an emergency landing in Indonesia in 2007, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has found.
The Airbus A330-200 was carrying more than 300 passengers from Bangkok to Melbourne when it diverted to Bali's Denpasar airport on July 23, 2007.
A high pressure fuel shut-off valve was found to be faulty in subsequent investigations by the bureau.
The plane had been in service for just 319 hours.
"The reason for the shutdown of the left engine was determined to be fuel starvation," the bureau wrote in its final report, released today.
