Couple gunned down in house

A MAN and a woman were gunned down during a suspected home invasion in the exclusive Sydney suburb of Castle Cove last night.

The couple were both shot by a number of unknown gunmen in their home shortly after 11.30pm.

Police at the scene were tight lipped about the circumstances surrounding the shooting but it is believed the couple were shot during a home invasion.

The man was fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot up to seven times and was undergoing emergency surgery early this morning.

Ambulance officers at the scene treated the man for a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was also shot in the shoulder with the bullet passing through his body leaving an exit wound.

He also received five bullet wounds to his right arm and was reported to be in a critical condition in the Royal North Shore Hospital,

His female companion was shot in the leg during the attack. She was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at a home in Neerim Rd in Castle Cove on Sydney's north shore.

Police established a crime scene in the street and began an urgent manhunt for the armed gang responsible for the attack.
