Police officer injured in mass brawl
July 21, 2009 - 6:30AM
A south-west Sydney club owner has been charged over a brawl at his watering hole, which left one police officer in hospital after he was hit in the head with a dinner plate.
The large brawl involving 30 people broke out at the Condell Park club early on Sunday morning, with police called to the Eldridge Roadd address at 1am.
Police from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad and the Riot Squad had to be called out to the club when officers struggled to control a number of fights taking place inside the club.
One officer had to be taken to hospital after he was injured in the brawl.
"During the incident a probationary constable was hit in the back of the head with a dinner plate," police said in a statement.
"He attended Bankstown Hospital but has been released and is continuing to recover at home."
The owner of the club has now been issued with a court attendance notice for allowing intoxication and violence on the premises.
He will appear at Bankstown Local Court on September 2.
