Syrian forces fire on funeral: activists
SYRIAN security forces opened fire at the funeral of assassinated Kurdish opposition leader Meshaal Tamo, killing one person, activists say.
"One person was killed and others wounded by bullets during the funeral of Meshaal Tamo," the Local Coordination Committees, which organises the protests on the ground, said.
They said the shooting occurred as 50,000 people rallied against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad at the funeral.
Tamo founded the liberal Kurdish Future Party, which considers the Kurds to be an integral part of Syria.
He was a member of the newly formed opposition Syrian National Council and had been released recently after spending three and a half years in prison.
Tamo's assassination sparked indignation at home and abroad.
A violent crackdown on anti-regime protests that broke out in March has killed more than 2900 people, according to the United Nations.
