Qahwaji on Army Day: Army Must Not Allow Lebanon to Become Means to Target Any Fraternal State
Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji urged on Friday the army to fortify the internal scene against the repercussions of regional crises and maintain unity against internal challenges.
He said in an address of the army: “You should not allow your country to become a means to target any fraternal country.”
“In light of the formation of a new government, I call on you to assist it in its process of development and to strike down strife with an iron fist,” he said in the Order of the Day issued on the 66th anniversary of Army Day on August 1.
“I call on you to steer away from local disputes, remain at an equal distance from all sides, and commit to the rules and the law that are the source of your strength,” he stressed.
“Know that your constant readiness to confront the Israeli enemy should be your first priority that deserves every effort and sacrifice,” the army commander declared.
“This mission cannot be complete without your close cooperation with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1701,” he continued.
“These matters cannot be complete without supporting the Lebanese people and the country’s right to take advantage of all of its national powers that can be summed up by the equation of the army, people, and Resistance,” Qahwaji stressed.
“You have demonstrated your ability to assume your responsibilities during the most critical times in Lebanon and I pledge to provide you with the appropriate equipment and arms that match your sacrifices,” he stated.
