The body of a woman was discovered at a Perth house on Wednesday where police investigating the disappearance of a 32-year-old had spent the day.

The body has yet to be formally identified, but police believe it to be that of Fahima Yusuf.

A 36-year-old man, who police say is known to the victim, was charged with murder after the discovery.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear in a Perth court on Thursday.

Dozens of forensic investigators descended on Weston Street in Carlisle early on Wednesday morning, and established a large crime scene.

Areas of the backyard were dug up as part of the investigation.

Officers want to speak to anyone who has spoken to Ms Yusuf in recent weeks.

Couple with children lived at home: neighbours

Neighbours said a couple with two young children live at the house.

One neighbour said detectives came knocking on their doors at about 9:00pm on Tuesday.

She said they collected hours of CCTV from the camera outside her house.

She was told by detectives her neighbour had not been seen since 5:30am on Friday.

Neighbours said they had not seen or heard anything out of the ordinary on the street in recent days.

They said the street was usually quiet and they had never seen anything like the police investigation before.

Carpet cleaner booked

On Wednesday morning, a man arrived on the street in a van and said he had been booked to clean the carpets in two bedrooms at the house.

He said however he had not been able to reach the client on the phone on Tuesday.

The carpet cleaner decided to turn up on Wednesday anyway but found a crime scene.

He was briefly interviewed by homicide detectives before he left.
