A 73-year-old woman was trying to park her car at a netball complex in Sydney's south when it crashed into two spectators, leaving one of them critically injured, authorities say.
The Sutherland Shire Netball Association said the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle in the car park of the Bellingara Road complex in Miranda about 10:00am on Saturday.
A 62-year-old man suffered a head injury and a 66-year-old woman was pinned between the car and a fence, sustaining a head injury and a fractured leg. They were taken to St George Hospital.
Members of the public helped free the injured woman from beneath the car.
Chief Inspector Gary Ford of the Sutherland Shire Police Area Command said it appeared the driver "may have hit the accelerator instead of the brake" while "trying to park into a parking spot".
"Doing so, she reversed into two people standing next to a motorcycle," Mr Ford said.
"It does happen occasionally … unfortunately when it does happen people panic and hit the wrong one again."
The officer said there were a "number of kids around here playing netball" and said it was lucky the fence was in place.
The elderly driver is in hospital being treated for shock
The netball association announced that a number of games were postponed this morning.
