Another police officer was injured and four police vehicles damaged in the incident, which happened just after 5.30pm in Sydney.
A silver Mercedes AMG with four occupants was stopped on Euston Lane near Maddox Street, Alexandria, when two unmarked police vehicles approached it from both sides, NSW Police said.
The driver of the Mercedes then allegedly reversed into one of the police cars, injuring a female officer inside, before accelerating into the other police cars.
The female police officer is understood to have immediately radioed for backup.
A Dog Unit vehicle arriving at the scene was also hit and a male officer sustained lacerations to his arms and legs.
The four occupants of the Mercedes were arrested by police.
Three teenagers have been taken to Newtown Police Station and a 20-year-old man has been taken to Redfern Police Station where they are assisting with inquiries.
The injured female officer has been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with a minor laceration to her head.
The male officer has been treated by paramedics at the scene.
Initial investigations suggest the Mercedes was linked to alleged robberies in Sydney’s CBD being investigated by detectives attached to Redfern Region Enforcement Squad’s Strike Force Java, NSW Police said.
