Local in Sweida dismiss Assad officials from funeral ceremonies

A massive popular funeral ceremony started on Thursday (July 26) for the victims of the ISIS terrorist attack that targeted Sweida on Wednesday.

Local residents in the city of Sweida expelled the governor and the Assad regime representatives from the funeral ceremonies.

The death toll in coordinated ISIS suicide bombings and shootings in Sweida governorate rose to nearly 240 overnight, more than half of them civilians.

ISIS claimed the assault hours later. "ISIS militiamen first attacked security positions and Assad regime’s targets in Sweida city. After the attackers ran out of ammunition, they detonated their explosive vests," ISIS said.

It added that it was the worst bloodshed to hit Sweida province since the war began in 2011.

For more than a week now, Assad regime militias backed by their allied Russian warplanes have been on an offensive against an ISIS-linked group in Quneitra and Daraa countryside.
