Britain: We raise the issue of Rohingya constantly in international forums to create awareness of the importance of resolving it

The British prime minister said her country is constantly raising the issue of the oppressed Rohingya in the United Nations and directly with the Myanmar government “to continuously create awareness that this issue must be addressed by people.”

Speaking at a parliament meeting, Theresa May said the United Kingdom would continue to support Bangladesh to support the Rohingya refugees and “to put pressure on the Burmese government,” using Myanmar’s old name.

In response to a question posed by Stephen Twigg, chairman of the International Development Committee in parliament, May said they would continue to do “to ensure that the world draws its attention to the plight of the Rohingya people.

During the meeting, Twigg told the committee that the Myanmar embassy in London last month abstained from giving a British parliamentary delegation visas for a planned visit to Bangladesh and Myanmar to visit refugee camps.

“We are very disappointed. It is difficult not to conclude that this is a direct result of our report on Rohingya. ”

Since 25th August 2017, some 750,000 refugees, mostly children and women, have fled Myanmar when Myanmar forces launched a campaign against the Muslim minority, according to the United Nations. At least 9,000 Rohingyas were killed in Arakan State from 25 August to 24 September, according to MSF.
