Grammar school teacher who had sex with boy was 'lonely and flattered'
A Sydney Grammar School teacher who had sex with a student said she knew it was wrong but she was flattered, lonely and not thinking clearly.
The married woman who we can’t identify began a relationship with the 17-year-old student in January 2016.
She told the District Court they became close after she told him she had also suffered from depression and like him had struggled.
She acknowledged she knew it was wrong to invite him back to her apartment where they had lunch and beers.
"He asked and asked, I was flattered and I said yes."
They had sex for the next three months at her home and on school grounds but the relationship eventually soured.
In April the boy attempted to sever communication telling her his phone credit was too high.
She then wrote him lengthy text messages begging for forgiveness: "I'm a f------ monster but I'm so, so, so sorry," she said.
"I never ever ever meant to do wrong by you. I suppose I was too happy or too stupid to see the signs."
Asked why she apologised she broke down as she answered.
"I had been motivated however wrongly by the belief I was finally doing good by someone…that I was making someone happy and then it was revealed that was not the case I was devastated."
"Nothing in this whole debacle, not losing the job I loved, not the pain I caused my family, nothing is as hard to take as knowing I caused this person this pain… I am so sorry, so sorry."
The woman has pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual intercourse with person under her care.
