Model girlfriend 'saw nothing' during shooting
June 09, 2009 12:00am
SEATED beside him in his black Lamborghini as a lone gunman approached the driver's side window, Shayda Bastani could have been a key witness to finding the man who tried to kill her boyfriend.
But Fadi Ibrahim's model girlfriend insists she "saw nothing" in the moments before he was shot at close range, five times in the stomach, chest and arm with a silenced weapon.
While police waited for a critically ill Mr Ibrahim to wake from his coma, hoping he will identify his attacker, Ms Bastani yesterday spoke with The Daily Telegraph, revealing she "wishes this would all just blow over".

Ms Bastani, who is staying with friends, also stressed the injury she received - she was shot in the thigh during the attack - was not bad.
"I'm totally fine. I'm cool," she said. "I'm walking, there's nothing wrong with me. I'm not injured at all."

Ms Bastani's elderly parents yesterday claimed their daughter was an innocent bystander in Friday's shooting, and "just a friend" of Mr Ibrahim.
But the model and communications student admitted her family knew of her relationship - and her past. "They haven't been kept in the dark. They knew enough. And they know the truth now."

Ms Bastani, at just 22, was previously engaged to murder suspect Faouzi Abou Jibal who was found dead with a gunshot wound to the back in a Lakemba park in 2006.
Speaking of her involvement with the younger Ibrahim brother, she said she had only been seeing him for a short time. "It hasn't been very long at all," she said.

While her parents and friends were aware of the relationship, she claimed not to know of her boyfriend's alleged underworld links. He has never been convicted of any crimes.

"I wasn't aware of it," she said. "I really don't like any of this. Everyone knew I was seeing him. We were realistic about it."
Ms Bastani said Fadi Ibrahim "has no enemies".
"No one expected this," she said. "It's come as a real shock."
Ms Bastani maintained she saw nothing on the night, but said she would help police as they investigate the attempted hit.

"I didn't see anything," she said. "It was night time, it was dark. It all happened so quickly and suddenly."
And despite talk of retribution for the attack, Ms Bastani said she was not afraid. "Not at all," she said. "I need some rest."
Mr Ibrahim, 35, remained sedated with tubes assisting his breathing, in the intensive care unit of Royal North Shore Hospital yesterday.
The last of four operations took place on Sunday.
A hospital spokeswoman said Mr Ibrahim remained in a critical but stable condition.
It is understood police are strongly relying on forensic testing conducted at the Castle Cove crime scene while waiting for Mr Ibrahim to regain consciousness in the next few days.
Police have refused to comment on any suspected motive for the attack.
