New-look Rudd team to be sworn in
June 09, 2009 04:38am
PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd's new-look front bench will be sworn in this morning at Government House, Canberra.
The reshuffle comes after Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon's embarrassing resignation last week.
Labor veteran Senator John Faulkner, a minister in the Keating government, will take over the defence portfolio.
Parliamentary secretary Greg Combet, from the left, will be elevated to the ministry, taking on Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science, and will also assist on climate change.
New South Wales right-wing powerbroker Senator Mark Arbib has won the employment participation portfolio and will also be the minister assisting the prime minister for government service delivery.
Home Affairs Minister Bob Debus stood down from the ministry ahead of his retirement from parliament at the next election, while parliamentary secretary for health and ageing Jan McLucas stepped down amid an investigation into travel allowance claims.
Senator Joe Ludwig will take over Senator Faulkner's roles as cabinet secretary and special minister of state, and Kate Ellis will add to her portfolios of sport and youth, becoming minister for early childhood education and childcare and youth.
