Husband kills wife with 4WD - charged with negligent driving
June 06, 2009 12:00am
A FATHER of two faced court yesterday charged with killing his wife by running her down with the family's 4WD.
Inwhan Kim, 42, of Gordon faced Hornsby Local Court on a charge of negligent driving occasioning death.
The court heard Kim, who was driving the family's Toyota Landcrusier, struck his 48-year-old wife as she walked along Cecil St, Gordon, on Thursday. Ms Kim was found lying in the gutter and rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital where she later died.
The court heard there was a history of domestic violence between the couple.
Kim's solicitor yesterday argued there was no allegation that the incident was anything more than a tragic accident, which he said was backed up by the sole charge.
"He is deeply traumatised by what was a tragic accident," Bill Dickens said.
A teary-eyed Kim sat silently in the dock, cleanly shaved with neat black hair, wearing a striped polo shirt and black jacket.
He was supported by family and friends, including members of the family's church.
Magistrate Leslie Brennan granted bail, ordering Kim to attend Chatswood Police Station every Monday and Friday, surrender his passport within 24 hours, not apply for any travel documents and not approach a point of international departure and not contact his children "except as permitted by officers of DOCS".
"Whichever way you look at it, it is a tragedy. A mother has died, a wife has died," he said.
