UN Humanitarian Affairs Secretary: Baba Amr Has Been Completely Destroyed
Farah news online: UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos, visited the neighbourhood of Baba Amr in Homs with a team of volunteers from the Syrian Red Crescent. Amos said that the neighbourhood has been completely destroyed and most of its residents have fled. Meanwhile, regime’s massacres continued, as regime forces slaughtered two entire families totalling twenty members by knives. The regime also continued to heavily bombard the neighbourhoods of Bab Tadmor and Jab Jandali.
Assad’s forces are preparing for another massacre in the province of Idlib, as dozens of tanks and more than 100 armoured units arrived at the centre of the province in preparation for a major offensive in the northern parts of the province after they completely besieged the south and occupied the eastern parts.
The regime intensified its security grip on the capital Damascus, as regime forces raided the neighbourhoods of Qabun, Maidan, and Barzeh, amid heavy machinegun fire, arbitrary arrests, and the erection of new checkpoints.
Assad’s forces killed at least 80 people today; most fell in the province of Homs as the security campaign continued. Assad’s forces also invaded the town of Shizar in the province of Hama burning many houses and wrecking the ancient castle. Meanwhile, it also conducted a massive sweep and arrest campaign in the cities of Quriya and Boukamal in the province of Deir Azzour amid heavy shelling. Heavy clashes took place between the revolutionaries and the regime’s security forces in the Damascus suburb of Harasta.
Syrian Pound exchange rate plummeted to new lows. After reaching 80 pounds per US Dollar last month, it steeped to new lows to around 105 pounds per Dollar. This is the first clear sign of the collapse of the Syrian economy, and this will impact opposition groups, loyalists, and silent factions all alike.
