Hariri mourns Nassib Lahoud: A noble man and a pillar of the Cedar revolution

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri issued Thursday the following statement:

Lebanon lost today Nassib Lahoud, a great patriot, who played an influential role in political life and marked it with his attachment to its democratic path and his defense of its public freedoms.

The great deceased was a pillar of the Cedar revolution and the Independence movement. Every Lebanese who met Nassib Lahoud found in him all noble qualities: integrity, kindness, honesty, boldness, and sincere nationalism.

We lost today a man of noble values and principles, expressed through his experience in Parliament and the action of his party. These values and principles were also clear in March 14th squares, where he was at the forefront, fighting to eliminate decades of domination, subordination and political despotism.

Nassib Lahoud was a sincere ally and a noble rival. He was an honest politician who refused blackmail at the expense of the principles in which he believed.

As I express my profound sadness at the passing of this great brother and friend, I offer, in my name and in the name of my family and of the Future Movement, my heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and family and to the members of the “Democratic Renewal Movement”.

I ask God Almighty to have mercy on him and to inspire us to continue his democratic path so that Lebanon remains a nation of national dignity and coexistence.
