POLICE are continuing their investigations into a double fatal crash south of Port Macquarie this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene - about 1.5 kms north of the intersection with Hammond Vale Rd on the Pacific Hwy at Kew - shortly after 6am.
Police said a blue Toyota Rav4 was being driven in a northerly direction along the highway when it left the straight stretch of road and crashed into a tree.
The male driver and his female passenger, both aged in their 20s to 30s, were located dead at the scene.
They are yet to be formally identified but are believed to be from the Sydney area.
Kempsey Crash Investigation Unit officers remain at the scene.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing with police looking at whether fatigue was a contributing factor.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash or who may have seen the Toyota before 6am to contact Taree Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
