Coalition will vote down ETS - Minchin
THE Coalition will vote against Labor's emissions trading scheme in August, frontbencher Nick Minchin says, only days after Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull said he would consider amendments.
The Senate is due to vote on the legislation on August 13.
Rebel Liberal MP Wilson Tuckey has called Mr Turnbull "arrogant" and "inexperienced" for suggesting the coalition could move amendments to Labor's scheme rather than block it.
Frontbencher Nick Minchin on Thursday night asserted the Coalition would vote down the emissions trading scheme (ETS).
"We will vote against this legislation in August as will every non-government senator," Senator Minchin told ABC Television tonight.
"We have told the Government the legislation is deeply flawed."
Asked about Mr Tuckey's email outburst to coalition MPs on Tuesday, Senator Minchin said he
"I accept that Wilson Tuckey has not followed that very wise dictum that you don't put in writing those deeply-held views," Senator Minchin said.
"It's better to shout it in the shower."
The Coalition party room has agreed to avoid supporting an ETS before UN climate change talks are held at Copenhagen in December.
