Kids starved and kept in bathroom for a year
AP July 22, 2009 9:34AM
THREE children were allegedly kept in a motel bathroom day and night for a year, starved and abused until discovered by authorities.
One of the children said she thought they had been in the motel bathroom since October, but investigators do not know whether she was referring to 2007 or 2008, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The children, aged 6, 10 and 11, were in a hospital for 10 days after they were found July 2.
Another younger child aged 1 appeared to be healthy.
According to court papers, the 11-year-old said her mother's boyfriend had been sexually assaulting her for three years.

Police had been told the children were locked in the bathroom because their mother believed her boyfriend's accusations that the children had molested their youngest sister.
The children had become accustomed to hoarding food because they would not be fed for days.
The 10-year-old boy said the man beat him and his mother. The boy was covered in bruises when the children were found.
His 11-year-old sister said they were only allowed out of the bathroom when their mother's boyfriend took a shower.
The children were discovered by the mother's brother when he came to check on them.
The uncle called for a police escort to the motel in the 8100 block of Stemmons Freeway where the family lived.
He told the Dallas Morning News that he "just broke down" when the emaciated children came out.
The uncle said he thinks police did the correct thing by arresting his sister.
"I'm sure she was being abused, but when you see the kids, something just hits you," he told the Dallas Morning News. "You don't know how another human being could let kids get to that point."
