POLICE have not ruled out launching a murder investigation after a man's body was found in a Melbourne house fire.
The man's remains were discovered in the bathroom and laundry area of the home in Narre Warren, in Melbourne's east, after the fire was brought under control tonight.
Arson chemists and detectives will investigate the cause of the blaze which broke out in the Sweeney Drive property at about 6.45pm (AEST) and have not ruled out launching a murder investigation.
"Arson chemists will be on the scene later tonight to try and find the cause of the fire," a police spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said officers are keeping an open mind about the cause of the blaze.
