The Special Tribunal acquires its legal value from the will of the international community
Commenting on the statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman concerning the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri issued the following statement:
"The position taken by the Iranian Foreign Ministry is the exact copy of the repeated positions taken by Hezbollah and its Secretary General. It is part of a policy aimed at containing the Special Tribunal and preventing justice from achieving its objectives.
The Special Tribunal acquires its legal value from the will of the international community, which adopted a resolution in the Security Council in order to confront organized political crime in Lebanon. The international community has committed to comply with the full legal processes to achieve justice. These processes seem to contradict the political goals of the Iranian state and its allies in the region.
Iran is behaving according to the political and media accusations leveled against it, and is acting in light of its responsibility in covering the assassination crimes. Such behavior does not express any wisdom or any responsible attitude in this regard.
Everyone in the world knows the extent of the ties between Hezbollah and Iran. Iran's position regarding the Special Tribunal is another example of the state of osmosis and complementarily between the two parties, a reality that, we hope, has not yet reached the level of participating in hosting persons sought by international justice.
